Last night we were out at the Corning Radisson for Laurel Health Systems annual fundraiser. This is a pretty big event that they do each year. I think this years brought in around 300 people. Laurel basically took over the 1st floor at the Radisson, using the lobby for the money vacume, back rooms for a “saloon” type setup with games and did a really cool job of decorating the main ballroom to look like something from an old western movie, complete with hay bails and all!
The evening began with games out in the lobby area. We then escorted everyone in to the main ballroom for some speeches and more prizes. After dinner, they announced 50/50 raffle winners and drew numbers “lottery style” for their 4 main prizes, with a Grand Prize of $10,000! Someone went home last night with a life changing check!
We ran our basic package, using the colorstrip for dance floor fill and moving heads for spotlighting the stage for prize giveaways and pictures. We brought out the Ksub which performed nicely considering the size of the room and number of guests. We also provided sound in an adjacent room, where some of their guests sat to dine as the main ballroom was full. Unfortunately, we were unable run it wirelessly as their were about 3 cement walls between us and the other room, so my assitant had some fun running and taping around 200ft. of xlr. We could have simply dropped a speaker in the room, but unlike previous years, they really wanted the opportunity of having the speeches heard in there. We also dropped a speaker out in the main lobby to MC the money vacume. So, for a basic set-up, it wasnt so much.
Once we got in to open dance at around 9:45, it was pretty much just a great party right up until the hotel staff kicked us out at 1am!
Melissa and Staff – Thank you for having Fingerlakes Entertainment out. We had a great time partying with your Friends and Family.

Last night I did a small little birthday party for my buddy Chad’s mom, who turned 60. He had spent the better part of a couple months putting together a surprise party for her and a couple weeks ago, rumors began to spread of the party. Just when he had thought the “cat was out of the bag,” some of her friends from Maine came in to town and took her out, leaving her to believe that was the surprise.
Cheryl and her Husband showed up at the local Elks lodge last night for a “quick drink before meeting up with friends,” and there waited about 50 of their closest Friends and Family. It was a pretty good turnout and was quite a lot of fun. Cheryl may have turned 60, but her energy leaves many 20 year olds I know sitting down early. Her and her friends partied right up until 11pm and Im not sure if they were done yet after I left!
Happy Birthday Cheryl!

Tonight masks the beginning of my 2010 DJ Season with a 60th Birthday party. A small event, but it looks like it’s shaping up to be a lot of fun.
After this weekend, I take a 2 week rest and then we’re off. With a Corporate event on March 6th, Weddings and Proms to follow and a ton of meetings, consultations and planning sessions, 2010 is looking to be an awesome year for Fingerlakes Entertainment.
Stay tuned for pictures and event recaps!
As many things change with the years, so will my Fingerlakes Entertainment blog! DJ Boolanger (Nathan Baker) has definitely put in some time this winter, creating and updating a new Fingerlakes Entertainment website, that will not only provide our Couples and Friends with a fresh new site, but also make it easier for you to search for content, plan your event or just check out some of the photos and videos from our past events!
My hats off to Nathan on the new website build. I think it looks awesome!
Along with the website, comes the new Jason Brewer, Fingerlakes Entertainment blog. On the home page, you’ll find regular updates about what’s going on with Fingerlakes Entertainment, up and coming events, new photos and ideas and so much more.
The overhaul of the website and blogs is a little symbolic for Nathan and I. Just as the website has taken on a fresh new look, so have we. As we move in to the 2010 season, we’ve had the opportunity to meet with some more fantastic couples, sparking some new motivations and ideas in the “dj shop.” Nathan and I are having daily conversations about how we can continue to help our couples and clients take their events to that Next Level of entertainment. We’re looking at new lighting options, experimenting with new sound and light set-ups, testing new video gear and looking for even more ways to extend our already highly rated levels of customer service.
We’re both really excited about 2010! For our couples whom have already secured our services for the upcoming year, We look forward to seeing you all soon!
2010 is going to be a great year! Stay tuned to take the ride with us.
